Every iconic design begins with a question, a sense of curiosity—and at the 2025 International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, the Z Group Architecture & Interior Design team set out to discover answers that will shape the future of architecture and interior design in Aspen and beyond.

Representing the firm’s commitment to curiosity, collaboration, and excellence, Seth Hmielowski, Scott McHale, Marina Skiles and Melanie Noonan immersed themselves in the latest innovations transforming the built environment. More than attendees, they were active explorers—engaging with material innovations, emerging technologies, and lifestyle-forward solutions that align with Z Group’s mission: to create architecture that lives in harmony with nature and reflects the stories of those who inhabit it.

“Our clients trust us to be visionary yet grounded. Attending events like IBS ensures we remain both.” — Scott McHale

Tactile Design & Tech-Forward Kitchens Inspire Interior Innovation

The Kitchen and Bath sector at IBS was a hands-on playground of possibilities for interior design. From high-performance appliances to nature-inspired materials, the focus was clear: beautiful design should also be deeply personal and functional.

“We touched everything,” said Melanie with a laugh. “We even sat in every sauna so we could report back to a client choosing one for their mountain home.”

Interacting physically with wellness-forward features, luxury fixtures, and emerging surface materials allowed the team to vet options with more than just aesthetics in mind. That level of diligence reinforces Z Group’s values—crafting interiors that blend emotional resonance with enduring utility.

A standout moment? Discovering thoughtfully crafted pet-focused design elements. “We're currently designing a home that includes spaces for our client’s dogs and cats,” shared Scott. “Seeing an entire product line tailored to four-legged family members validated what we already believe—design should serve every member of the household.” From integrated dog wash stations and doggy doors to custom feline lounges, Z Group ensures interior architecture doesn’t just look good—it lives well.

Design Is a Human Experience

While IBS is a hub of trendspotting, it’s also a rare chance to deepen connections within the AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) ecosystem. Attending alongside clients, as well as partners from Connect One Design, Type 5 Builders, and Kelsen Building Group, Z Group prioritized face-to-face moments over formalities.

“When we connect over dinner, laugh, and talk beyond deadlines face-to-face, that bond strengthens—and that trust shows up in the quality of the work,” Seth noted. "We

“These moments are where collaboration becomes camaraderie. It is the foundation of smoother builds, aligned goals, and ultimately—happy clients,” added Scott.

This camaraderie reflects Z Group’s belief that exceptional architecture emerges from shared vision and mutual respect.

Real Products, Real People, Real Insight

Brochures and spec sheets can’t replicate the experience of walking through a display home, opening a custom cabinet, or watching sustainable insulation materials perform in real time. For Z Group, these tactile encounters provide an added layer of expertise and empathy.

“Our philosophy of designing with intention means knowing not just what’s beautiful—but what works,” said Marina. “Our clients depend on us to be both creative and credible.”

Whether testing smart home systems or evaluating eco-friendly finishes, the Z Group team left Las Vegas energized with a portfolio of real-world insights ready to elevate client projects across Aspen, the Roaring Fork Valley, and the Mountain West.

Vegas Vibes & Joyful Moments

IBS wasn’t all business. The Z Group team embraced the spirit of Las Vegas—sharing meals with industry peers, exploring the Strip, ziplining in Old Vegas, and capturing behind-the-scenes memories that reflect the fun, lively energy they also bring to every client engagement.

“At the end of the day, this work is about people,” Melanie shared. “When we’re connected to each other, we do our best work—for ourselves and for our clients.”

Why It Matters to Stay Ahead for the Clients We Serve

At Z Group Architecture & Interior Design, every design starts with listening—and evolves through learning. Attending IBS is not just an investment in continuing education—it’s an investment in the client experience. It’s how the team ensures the homes they design in Aspen and throughout Colorado aren’t just current, but timeless.

By staying ahead of industry innovation, nurturing collaborative relationships, and grounding every choice in real-life interaction, Z Group crafts architecture and interiors that honor their clients’ stories, enhance everyday life, and build enduring legacies.
