The Power of Collaboration: Volunteers Build Gabion Wall at the New Basalt River Park Bus Shelter
We are proud to share a recent success story that combines architecture, design, and community services.
Z Group Architects, in collaboration with Connect One Design and FCI Construction, embarked on a mission that extends beyond designing and building structures. We volunteered to construct the innovative stone gabion wall for the Basalt River Park Bus Shelter, a project fueled by a shared commitment to our beloved community.
A gabion wall is a retaining wall made of stacked stone-filled gabions tied together with wire. Gabion walls are usually battered (angled back towards the slope), or stepped back with the slope, rather than stacked vertically.
Designed to seamlessly blend with the Basalt River Park's landscape, the gabion wall serves as much more than an aesthetic feature to the bus shelter. It's a point of convergence - a place where community interaction buzzes, stories unfold, and a communal legacy is built day by day, stone by stone. A representation of the many individuals that create the whole. This functional design perfectly complements other Town of Basalt structures, such as the city sign positioned Northbound on highway 82 at Two Rivers Road.
Connect One Design’s exceptional landscape architecture expertise proved to be invaluable in the project. Their design philosophy, rooted in sustainable and contextual principles, was entirely in sync with our own. Together, we successfully created a space that aligns with the aesthetics of the Town of Basalt while serving a distinct functional purpose.
This is more than a success story; it is an example of our desire to transform individual narratives into community-developing projects. This transformational project stands not just as a functional bus shelter, but as a testament to the power of community-driven design. It serves as a reminder of how combining our individual talents can create a rich tapestry of design that can enrich communities—forming lasting connections, memories, and most importantly, meaningful legacies.
Further collaborations are on the horizon, with the promise of more community-enriching projects to come. As we delve more deeply into the power of collaborative architecture, we invite you to stay connected to our journey.
